The lot features an original and very rare E. Remington & Sons Smoot New Model No. 2 Revolver. Approximately 3,000 of these were ever manufactured from circa 1877-1885. The revolver was chambered in a .38 rimfire caliber and shows a 2 ¾ inch octagon barrel with spur trigger, non-stepped ejector rod, and original hard rubber grips with checkering. The firearm pre-dates the purchase of the Remington family owned, E. Remington & Sons Company, to Marcellus Harley of Hartley and Graham of New York City, a major sporting goods chain who also owned the Union Metallic Cartridge Company and the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The revolver shows the original factory nickel plated finish that is in a very good overall appearance, with spots of peppery oxidation. Overall, this is a very fine example for its age. It is marked “E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILLION, N.Y. PATENTED W.S. SMOOT OCT. 21, 1873." Serial Number: 631. This firearm qualifies as an Antique and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
