The lot features a classic Indian Reservation period typical Plains Indian form pipe tomahawk. The pipe tomahawk shows an ash wood haft handle that is adorned with old hot file brandings and elaborate brass tack designs. The head is solid brass with a large weeping heart cut out at the center and wide, flaring upward curled basal processes. There have been several of these cast brass pattern late-Indian Wars to Indian Reservation period tomahawks documented such as the piece in scholars Harold Peterson (American Indian Tomahawks) and Hartzler & Knowles (Tomahawks and Frontiersmen Axes) and an almost identical brass example from the Hartzler & Knowles book dated to the reservation period on page 180 fig. 27 is included in the photo gallery. This piece is from a Kansas City, Missouri collection. Head measures 6.5-inches and the total length is 21-inches long.
