This is an original, large bronze sculpture titled, “Polo Pony Tribute” by Alberta, Canada artist, Rich Roenisch from the 20th-century. The bronze shows a saddled polo horse atop of a carved wood pedestal with the box or base having four large bronze plaques with raised artwork shown one on each side. It is signed below the horse reading, "Roenisch". The base shows polo scenes on the front, back and sides depicting horsemen playing the game of polo. The piece is in good condition overall with light wear and a light patina present on the bronze, but no signs of major or obvious damage is noted. It measures 5 3/8" L x 11 1/8" W x 12 3/4" H and weighs 16 pounds.
Roenisch was born in 1958 in Southern Alberta, Canada. He grew up on a ranch and developed a passion for horses and the Western way of life from an early age. His father was a sculptor, and Roenisch started sculpting at a young age as well. After graduating from high school, Roenisch enrolled in the University of Alberta to study art. He later went on to study sculpting at the University of Calgary. Following graduation from Calgary, he relocated to the United States to pursue a career as a sculptor. Roenisch's art has been shown in galleries and museums around the US and Canada. He's also received multiple honors for his work.
