Featured in this lot "Pursuit" oil painting by American artist Robert Rossi d'Providence born in 1938 and died in 2011. The painting features a wonderfully and professionally crafted oil on canvas construction that is framed with a custom carved frame and shows a pursuit by Native Americans of a stagecoach with a rifleman on the read and a shotgun rider with a pistol in the front. The artist signature can be seen in the bottom right hand corner. According to Mr Rossi's obituary in the Nov 1,2011 WARWICK BEACON, his paintings were in the collections of Alex Trebec, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Vincent Price and many other of Hollywoods royalty. When he moved back east in the early 70s, he changed his name to Rossi d'Providence. He was a member of Mensa, a black belt that trained with Chuck Norris, a poet, and oddly, an artist that destroyed many of his own works. Leaving an interesting and probably small legacy of great work. Born Robert J. Rossi in 1938 in Providence, Rhode Island, he began signing his works as Rossi d'Providence after 1971. He paints in oil only-realist and abstract works but does not sell his art publicly. Rossi has produced tens of thousands of oil paintings all of his life. He rarely stretches his canvases on wood stretchers and never frames them except on rare occasions. He gives most of his works to friends and acquaintances. Many times he has disposed rolls of his works in trash bins or given it to Salvation Army stores around New England. His large painting depicting Alexander and Darius's battle at the River Issus (333BC) is on view at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The condition of this oil painting by Robert Rossi d'Providence is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this oil painting is 31" x 43" and the visible artwork measures 23 1/4" x 35 3/8".
