Offered in this lot we have a Rose Cree Chippewa hand woven papoose cradle. Rose Cree (1921 -2004) was a highly respected Ojibwe elder of the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation located in North Dakota. She is know as one of the most skilled willow basket weavers in modern times. Her and her husband where awarded with a Governor's Award for the Arts in 1985. A number of her baskets are displayed in the Smithsonian and other museums across the US, Canada and other countries. The cradle is made of woven red willow branches over a thicker branch frame. The cradle shows a red color with stripes of tan stripped branches. The cradle is in good condition, showing good tight weave overall. The cradle measures 32" tall by 16 1/2" wide by 14 1/2" deep.
