Presented in this lot is an Original Russell Chatham Lithograph "Squall In Late November", Signed, 1993, Limited Edition 44/275. The piece masterfully captures the dark, shifting atmosphere of an approaching winter storm rolling across an open Western landscape. Moody, ominous, and silent, depicting the transition from late autumn to early winter. True to the artist's signature style, the artwork emphasizes mood, changing natural light, and the quiet, spiritual aspects of the wilderness. The "lighting" is focused on the dramatic effects of shifting, diffused light filtered through dense storm clouds. Legendary American Western artist Russell Chatham (1939–2019) was known for his tonalist style, Chatham captured the deeply haunting, muted glow of changing evening light over Western waters. Chatham utilized a meticulous, pioneering printmaking process that required anywhere from 30 to 50 distinct layers of color and hand-drawn plates. He hand-pulled his prints using complex color shifts, capturing an "optical vibrancy" that mimics subtle changes in seasonal weather and twilight.
