The lot features an exceptional set of early Santee Sioux Native American Indian beaded moccasins dating to circa 1880-1890. The moccasins show an Indian tanned hide construction with thick Great American Bison Buffalo parfleche soles sewn with sinew having a mid-height Indian tanned hide ankle that is accented by a fancy beaded edge. The front of the moccasins shows excellent petit glass trade seed beads in semi-transparent sky padre blue, semi-transparent pink, semi-transparent red, semi-transparent, semi-transparent green and a copper like iridescent bead. The beadwork pattern is in a wonderful traditional geometric floral combination, a style almost exclusively found on Santee Sioux and other Eastern Sioux pieces. The original hide ties are still intact, a wonderful rare addition. Provenance: From a Manheim, Pennsylvania collection. These are truly an excellent set of beaded moccasins that have been well preserved in good condition. Each shows a 9.75 inch sole and 4 inch high ankle.
