The lot features an original Santee Sioux Native American Indian pipe with catlinite pipestone bowl. The pipe shows a solid wood hand carved design having typical animal effigy carvings. At the pipe bowl fitting end shows a carved reptile having a green and yellow ocher mineral paint patina. Along the smoking tip end shows an artful elbow with two coiled snakes tied together and one raising its head towards the user. The smoking tip shows a raised and chamfered edge. The snakes show the same ocher mineral painted patina. Provenance: The piece was seen by an Indian expert and confirmed to be an authentic example. From a Large Western and Indian collection in Billings, Montana. Measures overall 24"L x 3.5"W x 2.25"D.
