Many residents of the Santo Domingo Pueblo are artists who earn a living through everything from jewelry-making and beadwork, to silversmithing and pottery. Kewa artists are known for their stonework jewelry, including their hand rolled flat disks or beads called heishi, meaning "shell bead", some of the finest turquoise necklaces are made by Santo Domingo artists.
