Featured in this lot is this Seven Strand Santo Domingo Pueblo (Kewa) Heishi and Mediterranean Red Coral Beaded Necklace, circa mid 1900s. The necklace features a wonderfully and professionally crafted heishi and turquoise construction that shows a seven strand design with heishi discoidal shells throughout with Mediterranean red coral tube beads sinew strung with jingle cones. Heishi considered the oldest form of jewelry in New Mexico, predating the introduction of metals. The Kewa (Santo Domingo Pueblo) artists are known for their stonework jewelry and are the most proficient heishi producers. Truly a wonderful vintage seven strand example from the Kewa - Santo Domingo Pueblo Native American Indians of New Mexico. The condition of this necklace is good with with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this necklace from end to end is 14".
