Featured in this lot is a Scientific Anglers System 6 Fiberglass Fly Fishing Rod with a Vintage Pflueger Medalist 1492DA reel in its own leather carrying drawstring pouch. Founded in 1945 in Midland, Michigan, Scientific Anglers is one of the "Fathers of Modern Day Fly Fishing". Scientific Anglers became the unequivocal champion of fly-line production through leading market innovation and development during fly fishing’s early widespread industrialization, and is noted for the invention of PVC coated floating fly line and continued innovations in fly line cores and coatings. The Pflueger Medalist fly reel, one of the most famous Pflueger reels ever to come out of Akron, Ohio, was first introduced in 1929 and was the epitome of affordable reliability. Models ending with "DA" were manufactured between 1966-1969.
Both the rod and reel are in overall good condition, noticeable damage was not noted. The 8'1" two-piece fly rod comes with the original red fabric cloth wrapper and a blue aluminum hard case with screw on lid. Reel comes with a tan leather drawstring pouch and measures 3" diameter x 1"D. Aluminum case has some dents and scratches but otherwise is solid. Pouch has some staining but is intact and sturdy. Case measures 1.75" diameter x 51.75"L; pouch is 4.5" W x 5"L.
