Included in this lot are two (2) Vintage Oil Lamps: One (1) Seljuk Persian Ornate Bronze Oil Lamp, circa 12th-15th century AD., three-footed pedestal shaped in appearance of a bird with an open oil reservoir bowl and short wick-holding spout. Second vintage oil lamp is from the 1800s, a brass teapot style finger oil lamp with a lid, the wick protruding from the reservoir through a long thin nozzle. Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection. Owen David Mort was an American engineer who amassed an impressive collection throughout his worldwide travels. His collection has included art, artifacts and other historical items from which he has donated to museums at the University of Utah and Snite Museum of Art, the University of Notre Dame, including African, Afghan, Indian, Mughal, Persian and Far East Asian art and artifacts. Oil and oil lamps have been utilized for centuries with the earliest discovered lamps dating from 9th century Persia. Historically these lamps were illuminated by vegetable oils, tallow or animal fat. These oil lamps are in amazingly preserved conditions, original brass and bronze finishes still visible, rich patina covers both lamps. Bronze lamp measures 3.25"W x 5"L x 1"H, brass lamp is 5"L, 3" diameter, 2"H, total weight of lamps is 8oz.
