Featured in this lot is "Seventy Years On The Frontier" by Alexander Majors, copyright Alexander Majors Historical Trust 1985, preface by William "Buffalo Bill Cody. "Seventy Years on the Frontier Alexander Majors' Memoirs of A Lifetime on the Border" describes not only the crossing of the plains with wagons and teams but Majors's involvement in the brief and boisterous career of the Pony Express, many side attractions like frontier cities and western horticulture, and figures like Kit Carson and Buffalo Bill, the latter of whom was still a boy when Majors hired him to carry dispatches between the wagon trains. Alexander Majors (1814-1900) was pioneer in the mail and transportation business in the early west. He along with William Hepburn Russell and William B. Waddell, founded the Pony Express and pioneered the overland stage between the Mississippi River and the Pacific Ocean. Information on uncultivated state of Missouri, Mormons, Doniphan's expedition, trapping, Kit Carson, Denver of early days, Kansas City before the war, silver mining, etc. Alexander Majors freighted on his own from 1848 to 1855 and then joined the famous partnership of Russell, Majors, & Waddell. In his early years, Majors traveled the Santa Fe Trail, but the later partnership was noted more for its role in the Utah "war", the Overland Mail, and the Pony Express. "Seventy Years on the Frontier" provides a fascinating glimpse into the early days of American frontier life. The book is written in a straightforward and engaging style, making it accessible to readers interested in history and the development of the American West. The blue cloth bound gold gilt illustrated hardcover is in very nice condition, gold gilt is still bright and clean. Intact pages are clean. Measures 5.625"W x 8.75"L x .875"D, weight is 1lb 2oz.*
