For your consideration is a Signed First Edition "The Last Running" 1974 by John Graves, illustrated by John Groth, The Encino Press Austin publisher. Author's and the illustrator's handwritten signatures on the front endpaper with an accompaning hand-drawn illustration by John Groth. Features special binding and slipcase. This is a classic short story first published in The Atlantic in 1959. Set in the 1920s, it depicts the final encounter between two aging men who were once bitter rivals on the Texas frontier: a rancher named Tom Bird and a Comanche former war chief named Starlight. The story explores the shared history of violence and mutual respect between the two men, reflecting on a vanished era of the American West. The black and rust cloth bound illustrated gold gilt hardcover is in very nice condition, illustrated slipcase is in good overall condition, stamp residue on front cover. Intact pages are clean and bright. Overall measurement is 9.25"W x 11.5"L x .75"D, combined weight is 1lb, 14oz.
