Included in this lot is a rare, original, signed Bruce LaFountain sterling silver necklace. Bruce LaFountain (1961- Present) was raised on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in Northern North Dakota, the official reservation of the Chippewa tribe. His father, a strong influence in his youth, taught him about his Chippewa heritage, an education that has stayed with the artist throughout his life. The majority of his work consists of sculptures based on his heritage. He works with stone and bronze and his sculptures have a lightness and movement in a modernist style. Today, Bruce LaFountain is considered to be one of the masters of modern contemporary sculpture. His work can be found in museums, galleries, and private collections throughout the country, including the Smithsonian. This piece is a rare find. The back of the pendant is marked "B. LaFountain 12/100". The pendant is in good condition, showing some natural patina from wear. Unclasped, the necklace measures 16 3/4". The pendant measures 1 1/2" by 1 1/4".
