Offered in this lot is a rare hand carved wood Mallard male duck decoy by John Gewerth of Big Sky Carvers, Montana. Big Sky Carvers or Montana was known as the premier makers of hand carved art decoys. John first began collecting decoys, when that no longer satisfied him, he started carving them himself. John has since won a number of “Best in Show’s” in carving competitions. In 1981, he was awarded “Best of Show” Floating Decorative Decoy at the World Championship, and has finished in the top three at least four times since then. John began carving for Big Sky Carvers in 1983. This is a signed special edition decoy made for Ducks Unlimited in 1990. The decoy is in good condition with one minor mark on the front left side. The decoy measures 20" x 8" x 7 1/2" very close to life size.
