Featured in this lot is a Signed Michael Gentry, "Custer's Nemesis (Joseph White Bull)", 1992. "Custer's Nemesis" is the portrayal of Chief Joseph White Bull, famous warrior of the Minneconjou Lakota Sioux armed with his Winchester, 17 shot .44 caliber rifle, at the moment of just having fired a shot at his arch-enemy, Peoushi Long Hair or better known as General George Armstrong Custer of the 7th Cavalry. White Bull's brother, One Bull, is positioned just to the right of White Bull. Joseph White Bull died in 1947. Half Cherokee himself, it was the Native American that captured Gentry's interest most powerfully, leading him to actually live on four reservations at different times during his painting career: the San Carlos Apache Reservation, the Crow Indian Reservation, the Tulalip Indian Reservation and the Blackfoot Indian Reservation. Gentry possessed a profound affection and undying fascination for each of the people he portrayed. After a quarter of a century of painting, he was firmly dedicated to depicting to the world the beauty and character of each subject in unerring detail. Michael Gentry (1940-1994) studied at U.C.L.A. and the Laguna Beach School of Art, California. Artist's signature is at the lower right corner with the artist's hallmark 'red hand'. Professionally mounted, this stunning print is in very nice condition, no marring exhibited. The beautiful black frame is in very nice condition. Visible art measures 23.5"W x 29.5"L, frame is 27.25"W x 33.25"L x .5"D.*
