Presented in this lot is this 1926 First Edition of “Signposts of Adventure” by James Willard Schultz. “Signposts of Adventure Glacier National Park as the Indians Know It.", Houghton Mifflin Company publisher, The Riverside Press Cambridge, printers. Thirty illustrations including photographs by Hileman, Kalispell, Montana. Folding map of Glacier National Park at the rear of the book. J. W. Schultz (1859–1947), or Apikuni, was an author, explorer, Glacier National Park guide, fur trader, and historian known for his historical writings of the Blackfoot Indians in the late 1800s, when he lived among them as a fur trader. He operated a fur trading post at Carroll, Montana and lived among the Pikuni tribe during the period 1880-82. He was given the name Apikuni by the Pikuni chief, Running Crane. Apikuni in Blackfeet means "Spotted Robe." In 1907, Schultz published "My Life as an Indian", the first of many future writings about the Blackfeet that he would produce over the next thirty years. Schultz is most noted for his 37 books, most about Blackfoot life, and for his contributions to the naming of prominent features in Glacier National Park. The book offered here is an authoritative guide to Glacier National Park by one who lived there and knew the Blackfeet intimately. A "must have" for any collector of James Willard Schultz, Blackfeet Indians, and/or Glacier National Park. The grey coloured clothbound hardcover is in nice condition, scuffing noted to edges, tight spine. Intact pages exhibit age tanning. Measures 5.5"W x 8.25"L x 1"D, weight 1lb, 4oz approximate.
