Featured in this lot is this Sioux beaded lizard umbilical cord fetish circa 1920's. The umbilical cord fetish shows an Indian tanned hide construction that is completely covered in early glass trade seed beadwork in a geometric pattern with colors of greasy yellow, greasy green, medium red, dark blue, light blue, and chalk white. The piece features a diamond shape with tassels on all four sides that are decorated with jingle cones and connected with large red white heart trade beads. These were said to be filled with the umbilical cord of the newly born and worn around their neck. The condition of this umbilical cord fetish is good with some wear to the hide showing discoloration due to the age of the piece but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this umbilical cord fetish is 10 1/2" x 8 1/4" x 1 1/4".
