The lot features an Indian tanned hide, large knife sheath with elaborate beadwork attributed to the Sioux Native American Indians. The front shows a geometric and symbolic pattern with human warrior figure at the top, whirling logs “good luck” symbol at the center, and framed in arrows around the outside edge. The beadwork is all glass trade seed and pony beads in colors of red white hearts, chalk white, medium green, greasy yellow, cobalt, black, greasy blue, and red, all in trade thread sewing. The back shows the fancy edge around the border with a belt strap consisting of a looped wide Indian tanned strap, creating a loop with tapering ends and all being fancy beaded in chalk white and cobalt beads. The inside of the sheath is lined with trade cloth muslin. Overall, the piece has the appearance and design to be considered pre-WWII, circa 1900-1930’s. Measures overall 11.5”W by 3.75”W (not including the belt strap).
