This is a fine traditional hand carved and shaped bone hide scrapper from the Northern Plains Sioux Native American Indians that dated to circa 19th Century. The piece is constructed from a Great American Bison Buffalo large bone that has been carved and shaped. The piece shows a rich heavy patina with primitive carving techniques adding to its very early Indian wars era age. The piece shows the typical drastic right turn top which would have originally held a gun barrel or bit of old iron blade adhered to the end with parfleche rawhide wrappings, which is now missing. This is truly one of the earliest museum quality adze hide scrappers of such a large size that we have had the pleasure of making available for sale. The scrapper measures 14.25" long, 4.25" wide at the head, and 2" thick at the base of the handle. The piece shows an old museum collection tag with identification numbers.
