The lot features a circa 1890 horse figural effigy pipe bowl from the Sioux Native American Indians. The piece is hand carved of catlinite pipestone with a rich red to speckled pink coloring. The pipe shows a square stem connection body with a horse saddle "U" at the center and horse profile figural pipe bowl. Both sides of the pipe are beautifully etched with a zig-zag and horsehair pattern. The stem connection has a few small chips and the pipe has a nice patina from is early circa 1890 age. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery, this piece is directly from the collection. The pipe has no major damage or cracks while measuring 7 5/8" L by 3"H by 1"D. Museum collection number E1082.
