The lot features a fantastic set of 20th Century Sioux moccasins that are fully beaded along all sides, top and bottom. The set shows an Indian tanned hide with bifurcated (bi-furcated or split) tongue with beadwork and rolled tin jingle dangle cone fringes with red plume feather accents. The set shows a trade clothe calico white / cream and light blue buffalo check ankle piped border. The top, sides, back, and bottom are all covered in geometric beadwork in glass trade seed beads. The tops show a "Buffalo Track" hoof pattern. The beadwork shows colors of greasy yellow, red white hearts, chalk white, semi-transparent medium green, cobalt, and greasy green. The back of the moccasins, where the sole and ankle meet, show the two Indian hide fringes, commonly found on authentic ceremonial moccasins. Beadwork covering the entire moccasins, including beadwork on the sole, is uncommon and highly sought after by collectors as these were used exclusively for ceremonies. Very few examples show the full beadwork along with the beaded split or bifurcated tongue. Provenance: From a fantastic Native American collection in Royal Oaks, California. Each measures 10.25"L along the sole with an additional 3.5"L fringes x 3 7/8"W x 4.25"H at the ankle.*
