The lot features an umbilical cord fetish with porcupine quillwork attributed to the Sioux Native American Indians of the Plains. The fetish is covered in porcupine quillwork having bright red, blue, yellow, and purple colors. The piece is crafted of Indian tanned hide with two long pieces of fringe at each leg area each having a rolled tin jingle cone with red dyed Horse tail hair. The piece appears to be constructed with trade cotton thread. These umbilical cord fetishes were typically seen with young Indian children and toddlers. The inside of the fetish is soft and has not been opened or examined. The consignor stated the piece to date from circa 1890-1910. Please examine the piece thoroughly in person or by searching the images for origin, age, and condition. The piece measures 2" x 5.5".
