For your consideration in this lot is a Sioux Native American Indian beaded top hat. The hat itself is a fine early Meyer Greentree hat, crafted out of Richmond, Virginia in the first quarter of the 1900's. The hat is adorned with a brass eagle front and center, which is topped with a tuff of Great American Buffalo fur. Additionally, the hat is decorated with a tanned hide, polychrome trade seed beaded strip, which uses chalk white, robin egg blue, and dark blue trade seed beads. The hat is finished with five large brass buttons, secured to the inside of the hat with Hudson Bay red-white heart pony beads. Each brass button is accentuated with dentalium shell beads, bear claws, sand cast trade beads, bone beads, and an array of wound glass bead drops. Overall, the hat is in good condition. The hat measures 6" high, 11 3/4" from front to back, and 9 1/2" wide. The inside circumference of the hat measures approximately 22 1/2" around.
