This is a wonderful authentic 19th Century carved wood reinforced and painted bow from the Sioux Native American Indians. Provenance: The piece was found to be an authentic original “Rare Old Sioux...” bow by the experts at Allard Auction where the piece sold in 1993 for $1,060.00 (the equivalent of $1,880.78 in 2020 due to inflation). The piece comes with the original receipt from Allard Auction. The bow shows a carved solid wood construction with hewn flat inside curved with a convex curved outer edge that has been wrapped with old U.S. tent canvas remnants and painted black. The bow shows the original sinew braided string still wrapped and strung to the piece, a truly rare and scarcely seen addition. The reinforced tent canvas is likely held to the wood using old hide glue. This is truly a wonderful 1800’s era bow showing well preserved condition. Measures overall 40.25”L.
