For your consideration is this beautiful, Sioux polychrome pottery bowl done by Sioux artist, Richard Underbaggage (1956-) in 2001. Living in Rapid City, South Dakota, Richard Underbaggage is an Oglala Sioux Indian who has been employed at Sioux Pottery since 1989. In 1956, he was born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Richard has been doing art for the majority of his life and is a self-taught artist. He has created cartoons, sculptures, murals, Black Hills Gold jewelry, and paintings in the past and present. Richard likes to paint anything that represents traditional Native American culture and ways of life. He won the Tomorrow's Hope competition in 1994. This polychrome bowl shows a red / brown base color with spots of off white paint splattered all over. Two eagles and two decorated peace pipes adorn the piece showing intricate styles and great attention to detail. Colors of blue, brown, white, black, light pink, light pale green and light red are present. The bottom is signed reading, "R. Underbaggage / 2001-Lakota". It shows good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of damage noted. It measures 9 5/8" L x 9 5/8" W x 6 5/8" H and weighs 2 pounds and 6 ounces.
