The lot features a stone head war dance club from the Sioux Native American Indians. The club is completely covered in beadwork and dates to the late 1800's to early 1900's. The piece consists of a bi-point carved stone head with carved groove down the center holding a wrap of trade cloth and band of Indian tanned hide, securing it to the wood haft handle. The handle is covered in a trade canvas cloth and is further covered in a crazy multicolored pattern using all period correct 1800's glass trade seed beads. It is also beaded across the top of the head strap in red-white hearts and chalk white. The beadwork shows many colors, including greasy yellow, cobalt, greasy blue, greasy green, chalk white, and more. The beads are sinew sewn. The base of the stripped carved wood haft is a tie of hide. The head connection and bottom hide tie both have old glue repairs. The piece shows some stiffened hide and slight bead loss, but overall, it is in good to fair condition for its early age. The head has a nice patina'd color. Measures overall 21" L with an additional 3.5" L wrist throng. The head is 6" L by 2.25" by 2.25".
