The revolver boasts a 2695 serial number, meaning it was one of the first 4000 of over 554,000 .38 Model 2 revolvers - And manufactured solely in the year of 1880. The initial run of the Model 2 is only one of five variations, recognized by its cylinder drag on the back of the cylinder, and the odd side-plate. The revolver additionally utilizes a 3 1/4" round barrel, nickel finish, hard rubber "S&W" monogram grips, top-break operation, and a fine double action trigger. The revolver is marked in numerous places, reading; ""SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS.U.S.A.PAT'DJAN.17 & 24 65 - JULY 11. 65. AUG. 24.69. JAN.19.1873 REISSUE JULY 25. 1871" on the top of the barrel rib, and shows matching serial numbers on the butt of the grips, on the back of the cylinder, and on the bottom of the top break latch. Overall, the revolver shows very good condition for age. Aesthetically, the revolver shows a fair amount of patina to the nickel finish, but is un-cleaned, and in a beautiful natural state - with all around good grips. Mechanically, the revolver is strong, with a solid double-action trigger pull, which is in good time, and has very-good cylinder lock-up. As well, the revolver shows a fair bore, with strong rifling. When shot on single action however, the hammer fails to fall to full cock. The revolver manufactured in 1880 qualifies as an Antique Hand Gun, and does NOT require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 2695.
