This lot features a great example of a Smith & Wesson Model 29-2, .44 Magnum, Nickel Finish, 8 3/8" Revolver. The revolver is based off of Smith & Wesson's large, square butt, N-Frame, and features an adjustable rear sight, serrated target hammer and trigger, and Pachmayr presentation grips. The Smith & Wesson Model 29 is a six-shot, double-action revolver chambered for the .44 Magnum cartridge, and manufactured by the U.S. company Smith & Wesson. The Model 29 was offered with 4", 5", 6", 6 1/2", 8 3/8" and, later, 10 3/8" barrel lengths as standard models. Other barrel lengths were available either by special order from Smith & Wesson's Custom Shop or custom built by gunsmiths. Finish options available included a highly polished blue'd or nickel-plated surface. At the time of its introduction, the Model 29 was the most powerful production handgun available. It was made famous by association with the fictional character "Dirty Harry" Callahan. The firearm shows correct Smith & Wesson roll stampings, reading; "MADE IN U.S.A. - MARCAS REGISTRADAS - SMITH & WESSON - SPRINGFIELD, MASS." on the right side of the frame, "44 MAGNUM" on the right side of the barrel, "SMITH & WESSON" on the left side of the barrel, and showing matching serial numbers on the butt, and frame. This revolver is in very-good condition, with a bright bore, a fantastic action, and 95% + finish - Showing slight storage wear, and very subtle loss of finish on the case hardened hammer and trigger. Additionally, the revolver is accompanied by a Smith & Wesson hard-case. This revolver was manufactured in 1975-77, qualifying it as a modern handgun, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: N350414.
