This is truly a rare Dr. Roy Jinks factory lettered Smith & Wesson Model No. 3 Target Revolver chambered in .38-40 Winchester CTG, noted as being possibly as low as 15 ever made by Dr. Jinks. Matching numbers on butte, cylinder and inside barrel when breach is opened. This model was introduced in 1887 and in production until 1910 with over 4,000 pistols produced. While these revolvers were offered from 1900 – 1907, all frames were made pre-1899 and are therefore antique and can be purchased without an FFL or C&R license. While many New Model No. 3's were produced, Target models were rare and only around 50 or so were chambered in .38 caliber making this a rare find. The revolver displays a 6 1/2" long ribbed barrel, six shot cylinder, single action hammer and trigger, and hardwood grips. This piece shows the longer barrel of a target version. The left side of the barrel is marked reading "38 WINCHESTER CTG" with the top of the barrel rib in faded lettering with patent dates and Smith & Wesson address. Mechanically the revolver still shows working order with a smooth rotation and crisp trigger. The piece shows good condition overall with some of the original blue'd finish and warm patina across the rest of the revolver. The pistol comes with a Smith & Wesson Manufacturers letter with information on the revolver and records of its early history. The revolver weighs 2lbs 6oz. Serial Number: 4071. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
