For your consideration is this 1950s Socony Mobiloil five gallon utility pail with spout and original box. Socony Mobil Oil Company's history can be traced back to the Vacuum Oil Company, which was established in 1866. Standard Oil dissolved in 1911, and the Standard Oil Company of New York, popularly known as Socony, was created alongside 33 other firms. In 1931, Socony combined with Vacuum Oil to become Socony-Vacuum Oil Company. The corporation was renamed Socony Mobil Oil corporation in 1955, then Mobil Oil Corporation in 1966, before being abbreviated to Mobil Corporation. This utility pail can hold five gallons of oil or other liquids and features a filling spot, a spout with two different sized openings and a wood handle on the top. The pail shows colors of orange, white and blue throughout and reads, "Mobiloil / For Services ML-MM-MS-DG / Socony Mobil Oil Company, Inc. / Net Contents 5 U.S. Gallons 4.16 Imp. Gals. 18.92 Liters / Registered Trade Marks Marcas Registradas New York Made In U.S.A.". The pail comes in its original, cardboard box. It shows some wear and staining from its age, but still houses the pail. The pail shows good condition overall with some wear present from its age and use over the years, but no signs of major damage or wear is present. The pail measures 11 1/2" L x 11 1/2" W x 15 1/2" H, while the box measures 11 3/4" L x 11 3/4" W x 18 1/8" H. They have a collective weight of 5 pounds and 2 ounces.
