Featured in this lot is this Leadwood Zebra Stallion by South African carver Lucky Nkala. The carving shows wonderful texturing and hand carved construction, with the artist’s imagination shown prevalently with the terrain textured to represent the shoreline of a watering hole. Zebras are single-hoofed animals that are native to Africa. Zebras are very closely related to horses and donkeys; in fact, they are in the same genus, Equus. However, zebras have black skin under their white coats. Each species of zebra has a different general pattern of stripes. The condition of this South African carving is good, with a minor repair to the left ear and natural fissures to the wood. The measurements of this Leadwood Zebra carving are 12" x 19" x 9".
