Featured in this lot is a collection of two SpecCast die cast metal coin banks in the form of the U.S. Navy airplane F4U-1 Corsair, used in WWII. The F4U-1 Corsair was one of the greatest combat aircraft of World War II. Development of this Navy fighter began in 1938, the first prototype flying on May 29, 1940. It was also the first fighter to exceed 400 mph, outperforming all other American aircraft at that time. Entering action in 1943 with land-based U.S. Marine squadrons stationed in the Solomon Islands, the Corsair swiftly gained air supremacy in the Pacific theater. The first die cast bank shows a checked tail wing and a star and stripe on either side of the tail. On the left wing there is another star and stripe. The front of the plane near the propeller reads, "ABG-2 USMC". The propellers are all black with yellow tips. The paint job or decal of this plane is called Blackburn Big Hog, named after naval aviator John Thomas Blackburn. The second in this collection is the same model and shows a different decal with two tone blue colors, and star and stripe on both sides of the tail. The left wing features the same stripe and star. The front end features the number "122" with blue propellers with yellow tips. The side of the plane above the wings on both sides show small decals of bombs lining the side. Both planes have a detachable bottom drop tanks for inserting coins and the front engines twist off for emptying the coins. Both planes propellers and front wheels rotate and move freely as well as the cockpit. The planes measure 8 1/4" L x 10 1/4" W x 2 3/4" H. Both planes come in their original packaging and boxes.
