Offered in this lot is a pair of of Spiny Oyster Alpaca Silver Dangle Earrings by Armand American Horse, a noted Lakota Sioux Indian silversmith artist, stamped hallmark on reverse of the earrings. As the name implies, Spiny Oysters are covered with menacing spines. Spiny Oyster shells are unique, beautiful, and also difficult-to-harvest. Typically found along the coasts of North Carolina all the way down to the waters near Brazil, also in the Sea of Cortez, and off the coast of Baja Mexico and Baja California. The shells of the Spiny Oyster are rare finds and are especially treasured by Native American Indian artists for their beautiful red, pink, brown, yellow, orange, purple, and white colours. Spiny oyster has been used by Native Americans since pre-historic times, unlike red coral, which was harvested in the Mediterranean and introduced by Europeans. Spiny oyster is found in all types of Native American jewelry. These earrings are in wonderful condition, made for pierced ears, they have four (4) round cut natural spiny oyster stones accented with a rope design, no marring noted. Measure .75"W x 3.75"L
