This is an original, circa 1983, Stan Bentall sterling silver large bolo tie with Buffalo / Bison and feather pattern with fantastic Southwestern art appeal. Stan Bentall is an artist from Santa Fe, New Mexico, best known for his bronze artwork. He also created several large three-dimensional sterling silver and 14k gold jewelry pieces. Bentall created his large jewelry with the lost wax method or the French term Cire Perdue. His large bolo necklaces are hard-to-find and have a classic Southwestern design focusing on animal effigies and feathers. This example shows a rawhide shield round background with a three-dimensional Great American Buffalo / Bison head and horse with flowing hair and stout nose. Beneath the Buffalo head are three large, long dangling sterling feathers. The bolo is strung on a classic braided black leather bolo necklace strand with the tip ends being large solid sterling silver feathers. The back of the bolo is signed / stamped “(Copyright) 198 BENTALL SS” which stands for Sterling Silver. This is a handmade piece of jewelry with nice vintage age being well kept and signed and of a large, heavy size. The bolo measures 20.5”L from the back of the neck to the bottom of the tips (not doubled). The bolo itself with the drop three-feathers measures 2 3/8”W x 5.75”H x 1”D approximate. Total weight of 155.6g.*
