Featured in this lot are two original & framed Stan Lynde "Rick O'Shay" comic strip character drawings from the 1970s - 1980s. Born on September, 23rd 1931 in Billings, Montana, he was raised on a sheep ranch near Lodge Grass. Stan attended the University of Montana in Missoula where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and later lived in Helena. In 1958, Lynde created the comic strip Rick O'Shay, a critical and commercial success. The first in this lot shows Chief Horse's Neck, a very sly Indian who interacted with O’Shay and Hip Shot in the comic. He is wearing a pilgrim style hat on his head and has a very chill look on his face. It is marked reading, "Chief Horse's Neck / By Stan Lynde". The second drawing shows Hipshot Percussion, O'Shay's best friend and a well-known gunslinger. He wears a flat brim cowboy hat and has a stoic look on his face as he looks towards the viewer. It is marked on the top reading, "Hipshot" and is signed on the bottom reading, "Stan Lynde". They are set in a wood frame and sit behind glass to preserve their condition. The visible artwork measures 23 1/2" L x 17 1/2" W, while the entire piece measures 26 3/8" L x 20 3/8" W x 1 1/4" D. The two pieces have a collective weight of 9 pounds and 12 ounces.
