Featured in this lot is a First Edition of "Stanley's Wonderful Adventures" by J.T. Headley and Willis Fletcher Johnson, published by Excelsior Publishing Co., 1890. An excerpt from the title page reads, “Twenty Years of the most wonderful adventures the world has known. The most complete, authentic, and thrilling recital yet issued of all his noble, daring, marvelous adventures, grand discoveries, and signal triumphs in opening up a vast continent of untold wealth to the civilized world." Comprising accurate and graphic accounts of the exploration of equatorial Africa; the finding of Livingstone by Stanley; the Expedition to the Great Lakes by Sir Samuel Baker; the discoveries of Lieutenant Cameron in his overland journey across the continent; the exploration of the Congo by Stanley. The book is 802 pages and "richly illustrated" featuring dozens of black & white and coloured illustrations. Brown cloth bound embossed gold gilt and black pictorial cover and spine. In addition to the numerous illustrations, the book also has a fold-out map. Book is in good overall condition, scuffing noted to the cover edges, foxing and age tanning noted to intact pages.
