Featured in this lot is a Signed Limited Edition Stephen Lyman Lithograph, "Silent Snows", 1990, framed, 701/1750. A beautiful timber wolf has stopped on a snowy rise, trying to assess the threat level of something he hears or smells. This exceptional limited edition print features two of Stephen Lyman's favorites: the Alaskan wilderness and the timber wolf. In the artist's own words, "All of my paintings have their origins in my experiences and perceptiosn of beauty in the wilderness. My goal is to allow the viewer to travel deep into the woods, find serenity at the water's edge, climb mountains and be completely at home in the true world - the world of the wilderness. The mist and clouds in the background, together with the wolf's gazing at something out of the picture, lends a mysteriousness - that feeling of something else out there." Stephen Lyman (1957-1996) was an explorer who specialized in painting the most elusive moments in nature. His inspiring work was inspired, in turn, by the writing and teachings of famous naturalist John Muir. His love of the great outdoors stemmed from a childhood spent in the Pacific Northwest, where hiking in Snake River country was a regular family ritual. Lyman spent years developing his own style of painting. This beautiful lithograph is in very nice condition. Professionally mounted triple-matted glazed wood frame exhibits scuffing, no other marring noted. Original Greenwich Workshop sleeve included. Provenance of previous frame repair also included. Visible art measures 15.5"W x 32.5"L, frame is 25.75"W x 43"L x 1.125"D. Combined weight is 13lb, 14oz.
