Featured in this lot is “Stickeen” by John Muir, 1915. published by Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston & New York, copyright 1909. The book is a short 73-page memoir regarding a dog named Stickeen, who was brought along one of John Muir's trips in Alaska. The book details their adventures on an Alaskan glacier with Stickeen as a near constant companion. It is one of Muir's best-known writings, and is now considered a classic dog story. John Muir, also known as "John of the Mountains" and "Father of the National Parks", was an influential Scottish-American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher, glaciologist, and early advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the United States. This tan cloth bound hardcover is in nice condition, slight scuffing and soiling to covers, intact pages with age tanning and slight foxing. Measures 4.75"W x 7.5"L x .5"D, weight approx. 6oz.
