Included in this lot are Sun & Moon Russian Blue Trade Bead Shell Pendant Necklace, circa 18th - 19th century. The single strand pendant necklace features hexagonal shaped Russian beads with a round white shell pendant, the polished reverse has a nautilus shaped brass jingle. Blue Russian Trade Beads were most commonly used as currency between the Alaskan Natives and Russians. Alaskan Natives would often sell sea otter pelts, whale blubber, furs, and other goods and services in exchange for Blue Russian trade beads. Mostly were manufactured in Bohemia (now the Czech Republic) or Venice. The Russian-American Company was a Russian trading monopoly that established colonies in North America (primarily in California and Alaska) during the 19th century. The necklace is in nicely preserved condition, no marring observed. Measures 24.5"L, pendant is 2.375" diameter. Combined weight is 60.5 grams. Provenance: From the Indian Nation Trading Post.
