For your consideration is this early edition (1881) of John Algernon Owens's "Sword and Pen; Or, Ventures and Adventures of Willard Glazier in War and Literature". P.W. Ziegler & Company, Publishers, Philadelphia, 1881; originally sold only by subscription. Brown cloth binding with stamped, black bands to front cover. Stamped, gilt lettering and designs to front cover and spine. Embossed bands on back cover.. [Continuation of the title-page]: Comprising incidents and reminiscences of his childhood; his chequered life as a student and teacher; and his remarkable career as a soldier and author; embracing also the story of his unprecedented journey from ocean to ocean on horseback; and an account of his discovery of the true source of the Mississippi River, and canoe voyage thence to the Gulf of Mexico. Acceptable condition, good boards with good overall binding, some pages in rougher condition. 5.5" x 7.5" x 1.5".
