The lot features two original photographs by T.J. Hileman (American, 1882-1945) of Waterton Lakes National Park Canada sister to Glacier National Park in Montana of Bertha Falls. Both are stamped and handwritten on the back, “Title (hand written) 6574 Bertha Falls Waterton Lakes NAT’L Park, Canada Copyright by T.J. Hileman, Kalispell, Mont.” T.J. Hileman (1882-1945) moved to Kalispell, MT in 1911, opening his own portrait studio, after graduating from Effingham School of Photography in Chicago, Il. There he met Alice Georgeson; in 1913, they were the first couple to have been married in Glacier National Park. In 1924, Hileman became the official photographer for the Great Northern Railway. He is very well known for his scenic photographs of the park as well as for his portraits of the Blackfoot Indians of the area. This hand-tinted, framed photo of Lake McDonald has a sticker on the back from Hileman's Kalispell shop. These early pieces by Tomar Jacob Hileman show a beautiful image of the towering rock face and flowing water of Bertha Falls in good condition. Each measures 10 5/8” by 6 7/8”. Another image by T.J. Hileman of a waterfall in Glacier or Waterton park in similar size have sold for $375 for a single image.
