The lot features a unique silver and sodalite bracelet with Syllabics markings from a Northern Plains Indian silversmith, signed T. Lef. Grave. The bracelet shows a triangle hallmark that is marked on the inside "T. LEF. GRAVE". Canadian syllabic writing, or simply syllabics, is a family of writing systems used by several Indigenous Canadian languages of the Algonquian, Inuit, and Athabaskan language families. Canadian syllabics are used in the Cree languages from Naskapi (spoken in Quebec) to the Rocky Mountains, including Easter Cree, Woods Cree, Swampy Cree, and Plains Cree. They are also sued to write Inuktitut in the eastern Canadian Arctic; there they are co-official with the Latin script in the territory of Nunavut as well as the Canadian Algonquian language, Ojibwe, as well as for Blackfoot, Dakelh (Carrier), Chipewyan, Slavey, Tli?cho (Dogrib) and Dane-zaa (Beaver). The bracelet or cuff has a heavy thick silver design, likely sterling but not tested, showing a raised design with the unique Syllabics etched on the top band. The ends are set with Sodalite stones with a rich blue coloring. The bracelet has a heat treated darker intentional patina, which beautifully finishes the piece. This is truly a unique piece that dates to the second half of the 20th century. Box measurements are 3” by 2.75” by ¾”. Inside circumference wrist size is 7” which includes the 7/8”W opening. Total weight of 76.8 grams.*
