Featured in this lot is this Tarahumara Indian olla terra cotta vessel. The vessel is wrapped in rawhide and shows modest polychrome painted brown coloration, due to its purpose as a fermenting pot. Tesgüino is an artisanal corn beer produced by several Yuto-Aztec people. The Tarahumara people regard the beer as sacred and it forms a significant part of their society. The condition of this olla pottery vessel is good, with wear consistent with age. The measurements of this large pottery olla are 10 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 9 1/2".
