This is a fantastic, large Tarahumara Rarámuri Mexican olla pottery vessel with antique age circa early 1900’s. The piece shows a large size with terracotta pottery in red and black with pattern painted with sun and wind with dotted pattern. The Rarámuri are believed to be descended from a people of the Mogollon culture. The Rarámuri repulsed and were never conquered by the Spanish Conquistadors or fully converted by the Jesuit missionaries. When the Spanish arrived in the 1500s, they called this native people the "Tarahumara". The piece shows wear with some small chipping to the lip of the vase but otherwise well preserved. The measurements of this pottery vase is 15" x 11" x 11". The collective weight of this pottery vase is 6lb 4oz.
