Featured in this lot is this Tarahumara Rarámuri water olla pottery vessel. The pottery vessel features a wonderfully and professionally crafted ceramic construction that shows a rawhide wrapped decoration that shows a polychrome decoration of geometric patterns adorning the side walls of the pottery vessel. The Rarámuri are believed to be descended from a people of the Mogollon culture. The Rarámuri repulsed and were never conquered by the Spanish Conquistadors or fully converted by the Jesuit missionaries. When the Spanish arrived in the 1500s, they called this native people the "Tarahumara". The condition of this pottery vessel is fair with a contemporary repair tot he pottery vessel but in fair overall condition. The measurements of this pottery vessel are 13" x 14" x 14".
