Included for auction in this lot is a Texas Tanning & Manufacturing Company fully tooled saddle, from the Hereford Brand, out of the leather capital of Texas - Yoakum. In the early 1900's a man by the name of Carl Welhausen acquired a small tannery on Brushy Creek, moving the business into the heart of town proved good for business, by 1929, the name was changed to Texas Hide & Leather Co., with an expanding inventory of leather products from saddles to wallets, it became Texas Tanning & Manufacturing Company. by 1956, the name was once again changed to "Tex Tan", and merged with the Tandy Corp. This early saddle is marked with a makers plate on the rear of the cantle, reading "Texas Tanning & MFG Co. - Hereford Brand - Yoakum, Texas". The latigo keeper is additionally stamped with the serial of the saddle, reading; "247 - 1116 - 1013". The saddle is intricately tooled on all surfaces, showing a deep basket weave pattern. The saddle is additionally decorated with silver toned star conchos, large silver toned buttons, and heavy-duty rigging dees. The Western style saddle uses a medium height cantle, and a fat undercut swell fork. Overall, this saddle shows very good condition, with rich, supple leather. The saddle comes to us from renowned Bozeman, Montana Western collector, Bud Chapman. The saddle shows a 14" seat.
