This is a first edition of "The Book of the American Indian" by Hamlin Garland published in 1923. Hannibal Hamlin Garland (1860-1940) was an American novelist, short story writer, poet, psychical researcher, and essayist. Garland is known for his collection of western short stories. The book contains numerous Native American short stories and tales. The stories are accompanied by 35 illustrations by Frederic Remington with a combination of black and white and full color pieces. Frederick Remington (1861 – 1909) was a well known American painter, illustrator, sculptor and writer who specialized in depictions of the American Old West. The book shows good condition overall with light wear across the cover. There is a handwritten signature on the front inside cover. The piece measures 12 1/2" tall by 9 1/4" wide and 1 1/2" thick.
