The Buffalo Bill Stories dime novels were published from 1901 to 1912. They were a weekly series put out by Street & Smith, featuring fictionalized adventures of William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody. While based loosely on Cody’s real-life exploits, the stories were highly dramatized, mixing frontier themes, gunfights, rescues, and encounters with outlaws or Native Americans. The series capitalized on the huge public fascination with the Old West at the turn of the 20th century, blending the fading reality of the frontier with the popularized Wild West imagery that Cody himself helped create through his traveling show.
